2001: organometallic actinide
chemistry
The
objective of my research will focus on the synthesize
a series of chelating imidazol-2-ylidene compounds and
to use them as polydentate carbene ligands at low-valent,
catalytically active uranium centers. The novel ligand
systems are designed to explore new transformations
relevant to binding, activating, and functionalizing
small molecules at uranium centers. This approach will
allow exploration of new modes of uranium reactivity
and their potential application to catalysis. Based
on a solid foundation of experimental results of actinide
coordination chemistry we will coax synthesis and computational
methods. We will demonstrate that modern computational
tools are capable of calculating electronic structures
and optimize geometries, thus, enhancing ligand design,
inorganic synthesis, and catalyst development.
